& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) The sun was shining, the birds were singing. Oh, who was she kidding? It was looking dreary outside. Like it was about to storm or something. She hopped out of bed and then jumped in the shower. She grabbed a random pair of jeans and a random shirt and got dressed. Turns out she ended up wearing her Batman shirt. She smiled at her awesome shirt choice and then went to grab her jewelry, her necklace and her ring that her mother gave her before she passed away. She then put on her hat and shoes, grabbed her iPod and left. She didn’t even care telling her aunt because one, she was twenty-one and two, she didn’t exactly care about Aristotle. She only cared about Cecilia, her real child.
She walked outside, and decided to grab her coat from her car, but walk the whole way to the park because she felt like walking today. She liked spending time away from this hell whole as much as possible. She buttoned up her jacket and continued to walk to the park. It may have been a rainy day, but the park was the only place that she could feel like she belonged somewhere. Everywhere else she felt like she was being watched by one of her aunt’s friends. Her aunt always made her stupid friends make sure that she wasn’t doing anything wrong or bad. She just put her iPod on shuffle and put both ear buds in her ears. She tried to forget about everything in the world, well, her world.
It didn’t take her very long to get to the park however. She put her hands in her pockets and walked around the park for a while. After walking around for about twenty minutes, she decided to go sit on the swings. No one was around because it was kind of cold outside, so that means no little kids around to be screaming or making her feel bad for taking up a swing. She leaned her head up against the chain and just swung back and forth thinking about what to do. Not just for the rest of the day or next week, but the rest of her life. This whole music thing wasn’t exactly working out so well. She had auditioned for twelve different orchestras and bands and they still hadn’t contacted her back. Perhaps that whole psychology thing would end up working out for her.
She pulled her hand out of her pocket and looked at the ring on her middle finger. It was a beautiful ring. Her mother had given it to her before she died. It was supposed to be a birthday present for her the next week. God. That was probably the worst month of for her. Her birthday month and both her parents passed away. She put her hand back in her pocket and began to feel rain drops. She looked up at the sky and it started to pour down rain. She ran for cover under the picnic canopy thing. How fortunate for her. She laid down on top of one of the tables. She just closed her eyes and crossed her hands together.

Today... Well today was a fine day, Colt thought. The weather wasn't exactly perfect, but that was okay with him. Who needed the weather to be perfect? At least he was alive. Stuck in fucking Hulett, though. So maybe life did kind of suck. Colt was too optimistic to let it get him down. If he started to get down, his sister would start to get down. And if Colt and Kitty were both down, that's when life really started to suck. Luckily, Colt was pretty good at being happy.
When he did feel upset about something — usually it was being quarantined with no hope of getting out his entire lifetime, which he figured was a pretty legitimate thing to be upset about — he usually went to the park. The park was a good place to go when one was upset, he found. It let a person enjoy nature. It was really one of the only places like that in Hulett. Their Wyoming town was small, but most of it actually was town. Whoever the bitches deciding the city limits had been, they had not been very merciful toward giving the Hulett population much room to expand. Of course, the population didn't really expand anyway. Who wanted to really raise a family when they probably wouldn't live to see freedom either? Some people did, clearly; whether it happened by accident or they wanted kids either way. But for those children that were born, the old of age or sick would die. Just like it did in the rest of the world, Colt figured. Therefore, Hulett's population as far as he was aware stayed pretty constant.
But anyway, the park. Today, he wasn't necessarily going because he was upset about anything. In fact, he had spoken to Kelsie last night and he was in a pretty great mood. He always was after the laughs and thrill that came with talking to someone he legally should not be in contact with. Colt still wasn't sure how their first chat had gotten through the system — whatever the system was that made it impossible to talk to those outside (Colt figured it was there to keep plans of breaking out under control; he knew there would be plenty if it was allowed) — but he was damn happy that it had. It was his dirty little secret, besides the few trusted friends that he had shared it with.
When it started to rain, Colt only laughed, half-protected by the canopy of trees he was walking under. Rain was something else that Colt found he could enjoy. Or at least when he was in a good mood. He slowed to a stroll as he moved about a bit aimlessly along their trail. Until he caught sight of someone else out by the picnic benches. How strange. Normally most people stayed away from the park during a rain storm — or outdoors in general. Colt would probably be home himself if he had thought it would rain (although he probably should have guessed earlier based on the gloomy clouds). Unworried by the fact it could be one of the possessed of Hulett, Colt walked — speeding up slightly again — to the canopied benches. Finally, he could recognize the figure and smiled. Even closer, he realized her eyes were closed and she had earbuds in. Fun, fun. The smile turned mischievous and he slowed his walk to something more like a prowl.
Colt headed toward his friend's side that way, finally stopping when he was at the bench. With practiced ease he slid on to the seat of the bench, careful not to hit the structure and alert Ari. Seated, he leaned forward slightly and lightly put a hand on her shoulder.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) She started to get slightly hot and slid her jacket off. She made it into a ball and put it under her head. She began to play games on her iTouch, the popular game Angry Birds. It was ridiculous how much this game became popular, but it was so much fun. Trying to knock down and kill the pigs, it was kind of like a strategy game; a two-year-olds strategy game however. She then heard a loud noise and kind of jumped. Thunder. Crap. Thunder scared the shit out of her. Lightning was pretty and cool to look at, but thunder was a different story. She exited out of her game and just closed her eyes and tried to listen to her music without thinking of the thunder.
Ari wasn't a baby, but thunder was one of the three things that really made her scared. The other two were rollercoasters and spiders. The thunder thing was more of a pathalogical type fear. She was about nine years old, both her parents had already passed away. She was with her aunt and cousin already and no one bothered to check on her. It wasn't like she had never faced a thunderstorm before, but it was just awful. The house almost got flooded. Her aunt just cared for Cecelia and hid them upstairs and didn't even care for Ari. She felt like the ugly duckling or something. She was super scared and now she can't listen to thunder without jumping. She pulled her hat over her face and just sat there.
She then jumped about two feet in the air when someone put their hand on her shoulder. She sat up and took her hat off from her face. She immediatly recognized the blond hair as Colt. He was wearing a blue shirt with skinny jeans and black boots. She play slapped him on his shoulder, "You sir, scared the living shit out of me." She leaned back on her hands and looked up at the ceiling of the canopy. She closed her eyes, but when another thunder bolt struck, she jumped. She looked at Colt and started to laugh slightly. She felt like such a big baby right now. "Sorry for being scared of thunder." She stuck her tongue out at him. "You seem to be in a happy mood. Talk to Kelsie recently?" She tried to keep her voice the same when talking about Kelsie.
Aristotle had an honest to god crush on Colt Silver Benjamin. She had ever since she met the boy. He was really cute and he loved music just as much as she did. He was super nice to her and really close to his younger sister which made her smile. She wished that her and Cecelia could be as close as him and Kitty. She didn't know why her aunt and cousin didn't like her. She tried to be nice and kind and help out as much as she could. Anyways, she looked back up at Colt and back down. She started to move her feet around and then finally pulled out an earbud to listen to Colt speak when he did.

It was hard not to crack up at the reaction Aristotle gave to him trying to freak her out. Mission: complete. Some people may have said he was being mean with what he had done — was it nice to scare his friends? But Colt didn't think it was mean. He was simply having fun, and he knew that Ari wouldn't get mad at him. Or, at least, she wouldn't stay mad at him if she did wind up getting angry. Colt never worried about pissing off his sister or close friends with his pranks. Really, they should expect it anyway, right? It was not exactly news that Colt was up to no good. Pulling pranks made him laugh. And he never harmed anyone in his pranks, anyway.
Colt smirked at the girl's words. He wished he knew exactly how loud Ari had her music up. That would be fun, too. If she had it loud enough, it would be entertaining to pretend he was speaking when he wasn't. Granted, it was not necessarily an original move. Colt didn't care much about that. Good jokes never got old, in his opinion. One just had to make sure not to over-use them. But instead of doing anything else to Ari, he leaned back a little bit, relaxing and smiling. "If you don't want to get the living shit scared out of you, then maybe you should be more attentive," Colt replied after a moment. He ran a hand through the front of his hair, where his 'bangs' were, as though his hair was possibly messy. Nope, just wet from having been in the rain a moment again.
Colt was completely oblivious to any change in Aristotle's voice as she continued to speak to him, asking him about Kelsie. By instinct, he glanced around to make sure there was no one within hearing range of them to hear about his secret friend. The look was quick as he realized that of course there was no one here; it was still pouring rain outside of the protection the picnic area's canopy provided. When he was looking at Ari again, he smiled and nodded. "Yup," he answered, "Last night." It was interesting how Kelsie put him in such a noticeably good mood. Though he supposed it wasn't necessarily surprising. He sucked his bottom lip in to his mouth, chewing on it for a second before letting go of it. "Today's a good day, though, y'know?" he continued, gesturing around him and laughing. A rain storm, yup — it was an amazing day, Colt. But at least nothing bad had happened.
After another momentary pause in his speaking, he leaned forward again. The blonde-haired boy crossed his arms on top of the table and looked at Ari on the table top. "Whatcha listening to?" he asked curiously; his head tilted to side slightly like a puppy and he grinned. When it came to music, Aristotle was one of his big buddies. Apart from his band, of course, who clearly were also in to music. But when Colt felt like playing something besides from his band's stuff, he could always go to Ari and they'd have awesome jam sessions together. Or they would just sit around and talk about it. Whatever. He never cared what they did. Besides from his sister, Aristotle was his best girl friend (well, if he only counted ones he actually knew).

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Aristotle could tell that Colt was laughing on the inside about her reaction. She nudged him again. It wasn't mean, but it wasn't nice either. Ari wouldn't do anything about it though, and he knew it. That's why he picked on her all the time. Then again, she could do the same for him as well. They had a...special relationship. Plus Colt was known for pulling pranks around the town. That was kind of like his thing or something.
She got off the table and looked up at the sky. Didn't look like it was going to get better for awhile. She went back over and sat next to Colt. She put her hands together and set her arms on her legs. Colt started talking about her being more attentive if she didn't want the shit to get scared out of her. "Touche," she said to him. She thought that he was going to try and trick her once again. He normally started to act like he was talking to her while her headphones were in, but he didn't. He then started to mess with his hair. She reached over and started messing with his hair as well, "It looks fine silly." It wasn't hard to mess up his hair since it wasn't super long. It was shaggy, but it looked cute shaggy.
It was a good thing that he didn't notice her voice changing when she asked him about Kelsie. She loved that he had found someone outside of the town, but she hated the idea of him being with her. She wanted him to be happy, but she was also slightly jealous of the idea of this Kelsie girl. She was super self conscience and that Kelsie girl was probably beautiful. She was okay looking and everything, but nothing awesome. This town held a lot of people that looked better than she did. The only thing people noticed about her was her pale skin. Not even her bright blue eyes really caught anyone's attention. It made her sad, but she got used to it.
Colt said that he had talked to her last night, looking around first to make sure no one was around. "I'm glad that you are having fun talking to Kelsie. You seem really happy whenever you get done talking to her." She smiled and nodded as he said that it was a good day. Another thunder bolt went off, but she didn't really jump this time, she just got a little tense. Once a thunder storm went on for awhile, she began to get used to it, and it also helped that she was talking to someone else as well.
He then asked her what she was listening to. The song just changed and she looked at the iPod and pulled out an earbud. "Gaurdian Angel from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus." This song was like her favorite slow song of all time. She paused it and pulled the earbuds out of the iPod. She started it over from the fifteen seconds that had already played and pressed play. That's the good thing about an iTouch. You could play the music without ear buds and set the iPod in between the two of them. Music was the main connector between the two of them. Colt had a band and she enjoyed coming into their practices and listening in. "So how's your band doing? I haven't listened to you all in awhile."

Laughing, Colt winked when Aristotle's answer was 'Touche'. When the girl started to mess with his hair as well, the blonde-haired boy could not help but laugh again. "Its not going to look fine if you keep that up," he retorted. Colt was not vain about his hair — not by a long shot; and, in fact, he didn't really think he was vain about any of his looks, even if he did try looking nice. But, hey, if they were going to joke around, Colt was going to pretend he cared. In reality, his hair was pretty easy to fix. A few brush-throughs with his fingers and it would be back to how he 'styled' it. If one could call it styling, of course. There wasn't much else Colt did to his hair when he was getting ready besides running a brush through it and giving it a little ruffle to give it that feathery look; if he was getting out of the shower, he might blow-dry it to avoid leaving the house with a wet mop for a head. He was blessed with naturally straight hair, though, so that made things a lot easier.
'You seem really happy whenever you get done talking to her.'
Well, yeah. Colt grinned and nodded. But however much he enjoyed talking to Kelsie, after a while a conversation about her started to sound awkward in his ears. Not to mention... Colt was a bit of a jumpy, A.D.D.-like person. After another round of thunder and lightning, and watching Ari tense up, Colt lunged forward and brought the smaller figure in to his arms. He was not a huge touchy-feely person, honestly, but when it came to people close to him he had no problem with it. Ari was like his sister, and he definitely hugged his sister. He was still grinning as he held the girl's body against his. "Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, huh?" he answered, loosening his grip on Ari as she set about doing something with her iPod. After a moment, the music was playing from the iPod's speaker on the table in front of them.
Colt nodded when Aristotle asked how his band was doing. Although he supposed that was not really an answer. "They're fine," he amended, "We practiced... three days ago? We wrote a couple new songs to work on. They're pretty good." There wasn't one particular lyricist in his band, because a few of them were all pretty good at coming up with songs. Whenever someone wrote something new, they would bring it in and the band would expand on it until it was something they all loved, if needed. Colt had written about five of the dozen or so original songs his band had after five years of being together. They were trying to get themselves noticed, somehow; trying to get famous. But it was pretty much fucking impossible in their situation. Still, they would play gigs at the local places, and a lot of the other people in town — well, mainly the younger ones unless older folks were just plain bored — seemed to enjoy it. It gave them something to do, he supposed, even if they didn't necessarily like the music. "Ugh, some friend you are!" Colt joked as Ari admitted she had not listened to his band in a while. A look of mock hurt crossed his face. "We've got a gig this weekend," he explained, "You should come see us! It'll be fuuuun." The last word came out in a sing-song type of voice, the look of hurt having disappeared a few seconds before and turning in to another grin.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Aristotle giggled when Colt winked at her when she said touche to his reply. He then said his hair wasn't going to look fine if she kept messing with it. She did one last brush through and left it alone. Colt wasn't one to actually care about his hair, but he liked to tease people to a certain extent. "Bah humbug. Your hair always looks fine." She felt like her hair was always a mess and would never look okay. Self esteem issues to the max. She then put all her hair to one side of her head and looked up at him. He ran his fingers through his head, bringing it back to the 'style' he had before she messed it up, sort of. She sometimes wished she had straight hair, but then denied it because she liked having naturally curly hair. It looked good on her, well, that's what people said anyways.
Colt got a wide grin on his face and nodded when she mentioned Kelsie again. She really needed to stop doing that. Even though she knew that Colt only thought of her as a friend, still kind of hurt in a way that she couldn't exactly explain so well. She needed to only think of Colt like a brother, nothing more really. But it didn't help when he held her because she became tense when the thunder hit once again. He got a good grasp on her and she felt the warmth kind of surrond her. Colt wasn't exactly the most touchy-feely person in the world, but they were kind of like siblings in a way. They hung out almost all the time, but they never fought. It was the one thing Ari absolutly loved about the boy. He then mentioned the bands name as she kind of squirmmed away from him. "Yuh huh. Got a problem with them?" she asked jokingly.
He said that the band members were all fine and that they practiced about three days ago. Apparently, the guys had written new songs to practice as well and said that they were good. Ari smiled and started to joke, "I shall be the judge of that. Text me next time you guys are gonna have a practice." She did really miss hanging around the band a lot. They were just a group of guys that sounded amazing when they were together. She asked, one practice, who wrote all the songs and they all kind of pointed at one another. She rolled her eyes at them and figured out that they kind of all wrote the songs, which was cool in her eyes. He then started to joke around with her, saying what a bad friend she was and that they were having a gig this weekend. She kind of pushed him, "Not my fault no one texts me these practices or dates." She smiled, "And of course I'll be there. Where is it aaaaat?" She mocked him singing out the words.
Of course, just then a loud ass mo-fo thunder bolt kind sounded with a big ass lighting bolt a little ways away. Without thinking, she kind of jumped and wrapped her arms around Colt and closed her eyes. After a few seconds, she opened one eye and released the death grip from his shirt and kind of turned the other way in embarrasment. "My bad."

"Well, thanks," Colt replied, winking and laughing after Ari told him that his hair always looked fine. That was nice of her. He grinned and leaned back on his seat a little bit. "Yours does, too." Having become close friends with Ari, it had not gotten past him that sometimes she obviously had issues with self-esteem. Colt understood how it was possible, of course. A person didn't need to be ugly to have low self-esteem — and from experience with having a little sister and hearing about girl problems, he knew the opposite was usual true. What he did not necessarily understand was why Ari would have these problems. She was pretty. Extremely pretty. While that didn't really make Colt feel romantic appeal toward Ari, as a brother-like friend he definitely could say it, he thought. He wasn't sure if it was his place to tell her to have more self-esteem, though. And if it would make any difference. He didn't want to make anything seem awkward.
The blonde-haired boy shook his head. "No problem," he responded, loosening his grip as he felt the girl wriggle to get free. Well, if she wanted to be let go, he was obviously not going to fight her wishes. That would be pretty damn stupid, really. "I don't know them that well, but they're not bad," Colt expanded truthfully. The name of course rung a bell, but he couldn't recall anything exact. He was sure he had heard a few of their songs before, though.
'I shall be the judge of that.'
Colt raised an eyebrow that basically said 'oh really?' as he looked at Ari again. He was kidding again, of course. In reality, he would love the other girl's opinion on the new songs the band was practicing. It would be good to get her opinion. Or any outsider's opinion, for that matter, not necessarily Ari's. But people other than the band had to think it was pretty good to judge it 'good' music. The band would obviously be pretty biased if they liked a song they had written, when it could really be a total piece of well ... shit. "I will most certainly text you next time we have practice," he promised, backing it up with a nod of his blonde head. When Ari pushed him again, Colt followed the direction of the force more than necessary to be dramatic, then he wound up laughing again. "Pfft, you should automatically know these things," he teased, tapping the side of his head, "Like ESP or some shit." Colt laughed at Ari's mocking of his voice before he answered her question. "At the bar we usually play at. You had better be there." The boy winked again, just in time for a particularly loud boom of thunder and bolt of lightning that seemed to land uncomfortably close for Colt's taste. He jumped slightly himself this time, not having expected it.
Then a weight fell against him and arms wrapped around him. Instantly, Colt's own fear disappeared and a more protective feeling washed over him instinctively. He grinned slightly with understanding and held on to Ari in return, waiting until she calmed down. Colt had dealt with a younger sister for years, and it would be ridiculous for him to say he didn't understand girls considering the closeness between him and Kitty (as aforementioned). 'My bad.' This time Colt didn't laugh, figuring it wouldn't be very appropriate. He recognized the embarrassment in the girl and shook his head. "Its fine; you know I don't care."
